California State Parks is working to develop a general plan (GP) for the Lake Perris State Recreation Area (SRA). The general plan will establish a long-term vision for the park and serve as its primary management document. It will include goals and guidelines for future recreation opportunities, resource protection and facility development, as well as park improvements, services and programs. An environmental impact report (EIR), as required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), will also be prepared as part of the general plan process. The EIR will evaluate potential environmental impacts of the general plan's recommendations.

While a General Development Plan was prepared in 1972 before the park opened in 1973, it was never adopted and has not been updated. California law requires previously classified park units to prepare a general plan before making permanent commitments of park resources. Developing a general plan now for Lake Perris SRA is an important step in establishing and memorializing a long-term vision, goals, guidelines, and objectives for the park. By identifying broad policy and program guidance, the General Plan will help guide both short- and long-term management decisions related to visitor experience, natural and cultural resource management, facility development, and other key areas to ensure the park's continued success. The development of a general plan for Lake Perris SRA is a high-ranking priority for California State Parks.
